Natural Dyes

Tintsaba are proud to offer a large range of colours from high quality saturation through their kaleidoscope of tones. They take care to only use the lighter sisal fibres so they take to the dyes well.

Natural Dyes

Tintsaba use various natural dyes such as tea to create some colours. The natural dyes take longer to colour, but they add beautiful earthy tones.

Colour Dyes

Tintsaba dyes are sourced from the ecoconfidence® collection of the DyStar Group based in Germany. DyStar is on the positive list, working towards: Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC). This certification lists a ban on such substances like total heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, mercury and lead etc), chlorinated solvents and perflourinated and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) plus many more. ​

Dyeing

Tintsaba use stainless steel dry vats which are heated by fire. The firewood is locally sourced acacia, another exotic weed found in Swaziland.

​All Tintsaba colours are mix by hand and therefore there may be slight colour variations between batches. We believe this is part of the beauty of this hand made product.

After dying and rinsing the sisal is pulled and hung under an awning to dry. The sisal will stay drying for a minimum of 5 days. After that, it goes into storage and is ready to be delivered to the producer groups for weaving.
